LIFE BE-WoodEN Study visit in Slovenia

The Study Visit in Slovenia involved 41 participants, including professionals, students and partners of the LIFE BE-WoodEN project, and took place between 17 and 19 February 2025 within the framework of Work Package 4 – Innovation Lab (Task T4.3).

The initiative was organised by the University of Primorska and featured an Innovation Lab on the use of wood in construction, hosted at the InnoRenew CoE Research Centre in Izola, with the aim of exploring innovative solutions and addressing the main challenges related to the use of wood-based products in the building sector.

The programme included specialised training activities and guided visits, focusing on:

  • timber building design and moisture control throughout the building life cycle;
  • wooden façades and their functional and aesthetic performance;
  • engineered wood products for construction;
  • innovative solutions based on bio-based materials.

The activities were complemented by visits to the research laboratories and to the InnoRenew CoE building, the largest wooden building in Slovenia, as well as by a visit to the Stilles d.o.o. production facility, dedicated to the manufacturing of CLT panels.

The Study Visit represented an important opportunity for direct exchange between research, education and industry, strengthening the European dimension of the NEB SUD Hub and knowledge transfer along the timber value chain.
